Pile Burn Workshop – Sat, Feb 28, 2026
The Yolo Prescribed Burn Association (PBA) is excited to announce a FREE Pile Burn Workshop in partnership with a private landowner in Rumsey, CA on February 28, 2026 from 10 am to 2 pm. This workshop is open to all regardless of previous experience but will be capped at 25 participants. The workshop will cover best practices for pile burning, permitting, and safety/escape prevention.
WHY PILE BURN?
Pile burning is a land management tool that manages fuels (dry branches, tree limbs, and shrub trimmings) to reduce an area’s wildfire risk and increase resilience to natural fire. Pile burning is an excellent strategy for fuels management in the wintertime to ensure safe burns while eliminating fuels that propel wildfire across the landscape. Pile burning can happen during the season when broadcast burning is ineffective (broadcast burns typically occur in early summer and fall in Yolo County).
WHY ATTEND?
Pile burning might seem simple, but when done incorrectly can generate a lot of smoke and even be illegal, if burning during no-burn days. To learn about permitting, agencies to notify, and how to build a safe and effective burn pile, join us on Sat, February 28th in Rumsey!
