January 2023 Fire Safe Council Meeting Updates

The January 2023 meeting of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council took place on January 25, 2023 from 4 to 5:30 PM. The meeting kicked off with a few important member announcements. Chief Shawn Kinney and Fire Marshall Damen Snow from the Yocha Dehe Fire Department announced that Chief Ramirez has retired. Chief Ramirez was the Chair of the Yolo County Fire Safe Council. The chair position is now open and will be addressed at the March YCFSC meeting. Bailey Adams from the Yolo County RCD introduced herself as the new coordinating or the Yolo Count Prescribed Burn Association.  There will be a kick off meeting on February 23 at 3pm.  Captain Schechla from the Winters Fire Department announced the hiring of a new Chief at Winters Fire Department. Chief Jack Snyder will start at WFD on February 6th. Next on the agenda, the YCFSC heard the usual reports from Yolo County Office of Emergency Services and the Yolo County RCD. Notably, the council heard from Kate Reza, Program Manager, at the RCD about the CAL FIRE Wildfire Prevention Grant that the RCD is currently writing to fund projects outlined in the Yolo County Community Wildfire Protection Plan. Kate reported the main focus of the grant will be hazardous fuels reduction, but will also feature wildfire prevention education and wildfire prevention planning. The council heard from community Fire Safe Councils including Capay Valley Emergency Response Auxiliary and Fire Safe Council who reported that Team Rubicon will be in the Capay Valley for fuels reduction work in the spring.
