This publication is a supplement to the original Know Your Natives, published by the Yolo County Resource Conservation District in 2000. The first publication covered 20 species of California native grasses that are commonly planted in habitat restoration projects, often seen in the wild, and whose seed is commercially available. The front of each page in the guide has several photos of the various stages of a single species, including mature plant, seed heads, seeds, and seedlings. More detailed information about that species appears on the back of each page and includes a general description, habitat, flower characteristics, and field use notes. Each page is three-hole punched on a reinforced edge so the guide, and supplements such as this, can be kept together in a binder.
The sixteen additional species of California native grasses, sedges, and rushes covered in this supplement are:
Achnatherum hymenoides Indian ricegrass
Achnatherum speciosum Desert needlegrass
Agrostis pallens Dune bentgrass
Carex barbarae Barbar sedge
Carex nebrascensis Nebraska sedge
Carex praegracilis Slender sedge
Carex tumulicola Foothill sedge
