Introduction to RCD Projects

A brief history

In 1992, the RCD Board of Directors applied for grant funding to increase local and regional outreach, and to investigate beneficial existing on-farm practices that local growers and directors had been perfecting for years. Many grants and 16 years later, we have a wide variety of programs, from farm and ranch practices implementation to research and monitoring projects. assisting_plantingHedgerow

For a summary of our previous projects please link to Past Programs.

Multi-year projects have engaged dozens of Yolo County farmers and ranchers who have adapted or improved, and then demonstrated integrated conservation practices. Most projects involve the cooperation and support of local, state and federal agencies and require extensive local matching funds, in-kind contributions, and extensive landowner input. For a listing of our project partners, link to Partners and Links.

Projects have funded workshops, educational materials, slide shows, a video, an irrigation management education program, and the installation of tail water ponds, seasonal wetlands, hedgerows, canal, roadside, and creek vegetation (to read more about these techniques link to our On-Farm Practices folder). To read more about how local growers and ranchers have implemented these conservation practices into their operations link to our Profiles in Conservation folder.
