How-tos
Step-by-step instructions for common tasks

- Log in and navigate to the folder in which you want to add a new folder.
- From the "add item" drop down menu at the upper right select "folder"
- Enter the Title and description of the new folder
- press the save button
- The folder is now created and in a public draft state. To publish the folder, go to the "change state" menu and select "publish"
Deciding if something should be a page or a folder
If your content is something like a document that you could hand someone on paper, than a "page" content-type is probably a good fit. If it could be more like a container holding other things, like photos, meeting announcements, reports, etc. then creating a folder is probably a better fit. Don't worry too much about this decision. If you make a document, you can always go back and convert it to a folder or vice-versa.
Moving / Uploading Images
- First make sure you've downloaded the image to your computer. If you're downloading it from another site, you may need to right-click (pc) or control_click (mac) and save the image to your desktop.
- Next, navigate to the place in your plone site where you keep images. If you haven't already, you may want to make an 'Images' folder.
- From the 'add item' menu, add an 'image', give it a name and upload the file from your computer.
- Enter a title, upload your image, and click 'save'.
- Publish the image from the change-state menu.
- Browse to the page where you want to upload the image, and switch to edit mode.
- Position the cursor at the place where you want to upload the image, and click the image icon at the top of the editable region. This icon looks like a page with a circle, square, and triangle in it.
- Use the dialog window that appears to navigate your site to locate the image. Find the image and click 'ok'.
- The image should now appear in your page, and you can click save when you are don editing this page.
Creating a folder-view page
- The default contents views on folders can be kind of simple and often we want a more 'designed' page. So, first, well navigate to the folder we want to do this for and add a new item (from the 'add item' menu) of the type 'page'.
- Add your page title (probably same as the folder title) and scroll down to the rich-text area. You may want to make a layout table to arrange your content.
- When you are making this page, remember that you are replacing the default view and that you need to add the links to the contined items manually.
- When you are done designing this page, save it, proof it, and make any fine-tuing changes that you need.
- When you are ready to make the page public, go to the "state" menu at the upper right and select publish.
- Finally, to override the default view for the folder and use your new page instead, navigate to the folder, click on the 'display' menu and choose 'Select a content item as default view…'. Select your custom view from this page.
Using tables for more complex layouts
- When you are creating pages in your site, you are likely to want more complex layouts than the single area of content spiling down the page. So first go to the 'add item' menu and add a 'page' (unless you have an existing page that you want to apply this technique to)
- Add your page title and scroll down to the rich-text area. Think about how the design of your table (how many rows and columns you need) and create the table with this table icon in the Kupu (green) toolbar.
- Add your content to the table using the alignment properties to create the layout you want.
- Save this page, proof the results and change if necessary
